Open your home to an athlete or artist and be a part of the excitement of the JCC Maccabi Experience and the lifelong connections they are making with the Jewish world!
Hosting a visiting athlete or artist is one of the best and most meaningful ways to be a part of the 2010 Baltimore JCC Maccabi Experience. During the week of August 8 – 13, 2010, over 1,000 teens from throughout North America, Australia, South America and Israel will come to Baltimore to participate in a week of artistic and athletic activities.
The Basics:
- House at least 2 visiting participants in your home. At least one adult in your home must be Jewish.
- Feed the participants breakfast each morning, and dinner on Sunday night and Host Family night.
- Transport the participants as detailed below.
- Entertain your participants on Host Family Night.
- Involve Yourself in the Experience! Attend opening ceremonies, volunteer to help at a sports venue or serve meals, and spend time with your participants.
- Attend one Host Family Orientation Night; multiple meeting dates will be offered.

The Details:
Sleeping Accommodations
- Each athlete requires separate sleeping space, i.e. separate bed, pull-out couch, cot or air mattress. Participants cannot share a bed.
Meals and Snacks:
- Provide breakfast for your participants Monday through Friday.
- Provide dinner on Sunday, Aug. 8, prior to the Opening Event, and on Host Family Night.
- The participants will all be teenagers and, as such, welcome evening snacks. Pretzels, fruit, cereal, cheese, etc. would be great!
- All lunches and dinner on Mon, Wed, and Thurs will be provided by the JCC Maccabi Experience®, and lunch on Tuesday including snacks during the day and at evening programs.
Driving/Carpool:
- Pick-up participants at the JCC in Owings Mills on arrival day--Sunday, Aug. 8 and transport them to and from the Opening Event. Families are strongly encouraged to join us for the Opening Event.
- Drop-off the participants at a designated drop-off location/hub or their athletic/artistic venue each morning.
- Pick-up the participants at the Owings Mills JCC each evening. The pick-up time is generally around 10:00 p.m. On Host Family Night pick-up time will be approximately 5:00 p.m.
- No local or visiting participants may drive during the week of the JCC Maccabi Experience®.
- All drivers must be credentialed Host Family members and must be 21 years of age or older. All drivers must possess a valid United States driver’s license.
- Bus Transportation will be provided to/from the JCC of Greater Baltimore and all venues for all competing participants.
- Drop off athletes and artists to the JCC in Owings Mills for their departure on Friday morning, August 13. Note: You are welcome to carpool with other host families as long as the number of passengers does not exceed the number of seatbelts.
Host Family Night:
- Your chance to show the participants a fun evening! Go out for ice cream, bowling, movies, the inner harbor, etc. Join another host family and make it a party.
Laundry:
- Participants in sporting events will need clean uniforms daily. Please provide access to laundry facilities, so they may do their wash.
